San Carlos Parks and Recreation Adventure Camps

Join friends – and make new friends – in these summer camps filled will all sorts of fun adventures. At Wee Woods Adventure Camp (Ages 4-5) campers enjoy activities planned around exciting themes and a special event each Thursday. Burton Camp (Ages 6-9) campers will embark on planned daily adventures and an age-appropriate off-site field trip each Thursday. Throughout Arguello Camp (Ages 9-12) tweens will participate in team-building games, crafts, outdoor activities, water games and a field trip each Thursday! Seek adventure and learn the basics of flag football in a fun and safe environment at our new Flag Football Camp (Ages-7-10). Club Ed Specialty Camps

We offer a variety of camps such as creative arts, crafts, performing arts, cooking, science, language, engineering, and more … there’s something for everyone! While each specific Club Ed camp varies in age range, there are options for any youth aged 5-15. Find out more information about our Club Ed camps in the Summer Camp Guide.

Sports Camps

Be active, meet new friends, and have fun this summer. Check out the awesome sport camps we have to offer and come out and play. Whether you are interested in dodgeball, gymnastics, or want to learn how to become a Ninja Warrior, we have something for you! L.I.T.E. Program “Leader In Training Education”

The LITE program gives middle school and high school students an opportunity to give back to the community and perform community service. Camp L.I.T.E. Program (Leader in Training Education) San Carlos Parks and Recreation is looking for confident, enthusiastic, and responsible teens to be leaders in training (L.I.T.E.s) at our Summer Adventure Camps. If you enjoy working with children and want to learn valuable job and leadership skills working with our trained Day Camp Leaders, you can apply!

Applications for the 2024 Camp season are now closed. Applications will reopen February, 2025.

Payment Plan Option

All of our summer camps now have the option of a payment plan. We know paying for a whole summer full of fun up front can be a challenge, so we are now giving families the option to break up the payments to ease that financial burden when registering. Here is how it works:

50% due at the time of registration.
Remaining 50% is due in two split payments.
Camps must be paid in full prior to the start date.

You can select the payment plan option during the check out process. Payments will automatically be withdrawn using your credit card.

Recreation Fee Assistance Program

A Fee Assistance Program, funded in partnership with the Parks and Recreation Foundation of San Carlos, is available to help San Carlos residents participate in San Carlos Parks & Recreation summer camps and classes. Fee assistance is available to qualifying San Carlos residents and students enrolled in a San Carlos-based school. Click here for more information and to fill out an application.

Adventure Camp Frequently Asked Questions

What should my child bring to camp?

Please send your child to camp with a backpack/bag with a lunch, snack, water bottle, and sunscreen. Campers will spend much of the day active and outside, so we recommend wearing layered play clothes and close-toed shoes. We ask that any toys are left at home as they may be easily lost at camp and there will always be activities to keep your child entertained.

Can my child be in the same camp as their friends, even though they are young for their grade?

While camp activities are planned based on the listed age group, we want to make sure your child is in the same camp as the rest of their peers in the same grade. Please see the table below to find out if your child is eligible for a different camp based on their age or grade.

Should my child bring a lunch and/or snack to camp?

Your child should bring a lunch, morning snack, and a water bottle to camp everyday unless it is specified that lunch will be provided. Throughout the day there will be a dedicated morning snack time, lunch, and afternoon snack time with an afternoon snack provided by us. Water breaks are also provided often between these times and water bottles can be refilled throughout the day. Campers will spend the whole day busy and active and will work up an appetite, extra snacks are always a good idea!

Are there alternative options for my child to stay back from the field trip?

There are no alternative options for children to stay back from field trips as all staff members attend field trips with campers. We highly encourage all children to attend the field trips as they are super fun and great learning experiences included in the cost of camp. Children are fully supervised for the entirety of trips, moving around in small groups with at least two experienced leaders so it is a great opportunity for students to practice for school field trips. If you choose not to send your child on the field trip you may keep your child home on field trip days, we just ask that you let staff know beforehand. Please keep in mind that we do not refund any days your child doesn’t attend camp.

What is the cancellation policy?

Our cancelation policy allows for a full refund up to 2 weeks prior to the start of camp. If you wish to cancel within 2 weeks of camp, you may do so with an additional $10 fee. Once the camp week starts, we do not offer any refunds for the week. To cancel please email recreation@cityofsancarlos.org or call (650)-802-4382.

How do I register for camp?

To register a child for camp please head to the following link: www.cityofsancarlos.org/register. Then click the link to “Activities” then search for “Adventure Camp” in the search bar where you can view each week of camp and enroll. Alternatively, you can register in person at the San Carlos Youth Center or Adult Community Center with a physical registration form.

What are the ratio’s of staff to campers at camp?

Our camps are staffed with enthusiastic and trained leaders who are excited to help your children have a super fun, memorable, and safe summer! Children will be fully supervised all day by our leaders in the ratios specified below:

Wee Woods (Ages 4-5) – 1 leader : 6 campers

Burton (Ages 6-8) – 1 leader : 8 campers

Arguello (Ages 9-12) – 1 leader : 10 campers

What if my child has allergies?

Please note any allergies your child has on your child’s emergency card with any important information regarding the allergy. If your child requires an Epi-pen for their allergy, please drop if off with staff, in the medication’s original container on the first day of camp with any instructions specific to your child. Staff is trained on administering medication and will carry the Epi-pen in proximity to the child should they need it.

What if my child feels sick at camp?

If your child feels sick at camp, please encourage them to let a staff member know. Staff will help your child and call parents or guardians if your child wants or needs to be picked up. Please note that if your child has a fever or throws up at camp parent/guardians will be contacted to pick their child up early.
